The Best Spas And Hotels In The U.K. With CBD Treatments

Cliveden House was once the home of Nancy Astor; American-born, incredibly wealthy, ferociously intelligent and in 1919, the first woman to take her place in the House of Commons as an MP.

Today, Cliveden, on the banks of the River Thames in Berkshire, is a luxury hotel and from November 1, the OTO brand will take up a four-month residency at the hotel spa with CBD-based treatments; one of a growing number of luxury hotels to do so.

With law changes in the past few years, CBD (Cannabidiol) is now legal in the U.K. as long as it does not contain more than 0.2% of THC, the component that gives cannabis its psychotic effects. Its acceptance by established hotels is an invaluable marketing tool for brands at the luxury end of the CBD market.

OTO has also started spa partnerships with the Mandarin Oriental hotel in Knightsbridge and the Bokeh spa at the Montcalm Hotel at Marble Arch. Both of them will offer stand-alone treatments, where the CBD is infused with different aromatherapy oils; the relaxing massage at the Mandarin Oriental uses jasmine, helichrysum and Roman chamomile, with grapeseed and coconut oil as the carrier oils.

At Cliveden, guests will be able to incorporate a selection of specially developed treatments included within overnight stays. The OTO Sleep Experience includes a stay with breakfast along with a 90-minute relaxation massage and sleep selection kit with night face mask, pillow mist and balance CBD oil, along with either a 60-minute private yoga or private sound healing session, with a re-energising massage in the Invest in Yourself Experience. There are also spa days available; with treatments and lunch and gifts.

The Four Seasons Trinity Square in London has a CBD-infused hammam treatment which incorporates an exfoliation before a lymphatic massage using a body oil from Apothem that contains CBD, along with extract of green coffee, birch and moringa seed oil.

Cowshed, part of the Soho House group, has also introduced CBD treatments into its UK spa alongside MariPharm’s CBD cream in its facial and its essential oil in its signature massage, using heated Thai compressors.

Rudding Park is a privately-owned luxury hotel near Harrogate in Yorkshire. In 2019, it introduced CBD in a new range of treatments as an add-on to its menu of existing treatments, with oral and body treatments, including massages, sprays and CBD-enhanced tea and hot chocolate. Like Cowshed, it sources its products from MariPharm. In Scotland, Kimpton hotels had partnered with the Scottish-based La Rue Verte CBD company to create spa treatments at Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow and Charlotte Square Hotel in Edinburgh.

Kloris, which also prides itself on its ethical harvesting and commitment to recycling – all the brand’s packaging is recyclable – was founded in 2018 and can be found at the Bulgari hotel in Knightsbridge London. The Kloris Stress Melting Ritual includes 100% natural CBD oil, hot stones and the company’s balm, a blend of oils with a potent 50mg dose of CBD, combined with ylang-ylang and bergamot.
